How do I get rid of the “nt authority system” virus?
I have windows xp, and just now I got a pop-up, saying I had to restart the computer – it would restart in 60 seconds. This keeps popping up. I searched it, and could find people with the same problem, but no solutions. I know it is some sort of worm/virus, similar to the 2003 one, I think?
Please help, I really don’t want to have to reset my computer to the factory settings, and surely there has to be some quick solution!

That sounds like the old Blaster (aka Lovsan, MSBlast) worm. Is your XP fully updated and patched? Are you running a firewall that is not disabled? Either one would have made your machine immune to the Blaster Worm.
Anyway, if it is Blaster, any good anti-virus can fix it. Don’t have one?
Then for your Anti-Virus……I would suggest Avast, Avast now includes anti-virus, some anti-spyware capability and anti-rootkit components. And all for the low low price of free. You can get it here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html(Always use only 1 A-V…You must NEVER use more than one anti-virus, Even an expired anti-virus can cause a major conflict… did I mention that you MUST uninstall any and all, old anti-virus products?)
And if indeed is Blaster, your XP install is horribly out of date and has not been updated and patched for many years and needs to be taken care of ASAP!

Download malwarebytes anti-malware and scan your pc with it. This will remove the virus. So will most other anti-viruses. Once you remove it turn on your windows updates and start installing all the updates you have missed. Windows released a patch for this some time ago. If you are worried because you do not have a genuine copy of windows do a custom install of windows updates and when you come across the one for Windows genuine advantage just deselect it from the list and it will not prompt you again for this update. You should have little trouble removing this problem.
